Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 6, 2026

Cal Cal ("we", "us") is a calorie and macro tracking app for iPhone. This policy explains what information the app handles and how. The short version: your diary lives on your device, photos are used only to analyze your food, and we don't sell your data.

Information stored on your device

The following data is stored locally on your iPhone and is not uploaded to us:

Deleting the app, or using Settings → Reset inside the app, removes this data from your device.

Meal photos and descriptions

When you scan a meal with your camera or describe it in words, the photo or text is sent securely over an encrypted connection to our AI analysis service, which returns estimated nutrition information. Photos and descriptions are used solely to perform the analysis you requested. They are not used to identify you and are not used for advertising.

Apple Health

If you grant permission, Cal Cal reads steps and active energy from Apple Health to show your activity and optionally adjust your calorie budget. Health data is used only inside the app, is never sent to our servers, and is never shared with third parties, in line with Apple's HealthKit guidelines. You can revoke access anytime in the Health app.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through your Apple ID. We use a subscription-management provider (RevenueCat) to validate purchases; it receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase receipts, not your name or Apple ID credentials.

Analytics

We collect limited, pseudonymous usage analytics (for example, which screens are used and where people drop out of onboarding) to improve the app. Analytics data does not include your food diary contents, photos, or health data. You can request deletion of analytics data associated with your device by contacting us.

What we don't do

Children

Cal Cal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR in the EU, CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Since almost all app data lives on your device, you can exercise most of these directly in the app. For anything else, contact us and we'll help.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
